55) BR hills (Biligirirangan betta) – Smooth Ride: (1/6/2012)

leave a comment »

Place: BR hills(Biligirirangan hills).
Distance: 200 x 2 = 400kms.
Directions: Bengaluru – Chenpatna – Sathnur – Kollegala – BR hills – Maddur – Bengaluru.
Particiapants: Viswanath(Vishu) > Dhanush(Dany) > Karthik (Sp).
Bikes: RE Thunderbird(2) > Pulsar 150.
Facebook Page: BRhills Album.
Yeah this was another formal run to the forest ranges of BR hills. But this ride was one of the smoothest we’d done till date. Minimum stops & smooth sailing made this trip a memorable one.
Talk about late night planning ha-ha! This trip was a result of the same. Late night about 23:00hrs (31/5/2012) the idea of visiting BR was conceived by 3 of us (Vishu, Dany & Sp). To hell with the boring city world we decided to pull this off even if it meant only 3 of us.
TIME: 00:45 hrs
Yeah I was at about 04:00, did a few push-ups, had a little coffee & headed out towards bakery where the meet up was scheduled. As I reached, I was quite surprised to find the other two already waiting for me (It doesn’t happen often you see :P). After a formal greeting, we decided to leave Bengaluru.
TIME: 05:30 hrs

RIDE 1: (Bengaluru – Bidadi)
This was a 30kms stretch. The weather was still icy cold as lots of clouds in the sky left SH-17(Mysore road) gloomy. We kept a decent pace to reach Bidadi for some breakfast.
We had some smashing Tate Idly’s, which tasted simply superb. A highly recommended stop on SH-17 I must say. With some food in our stomach we decided to continue further.
TIME: 06:45 hrs

RIDE 2: (Bidadi – Sathnur – BR hills)

This was non-stop 150-160kms stretch of some brilliant sailing. As we left Bidadi, we continued till Chenpatna, & took a left deviation. Excellent roads from then on made riding easy & we reached Sathnur in no time to re-join Kanakpura road.
Once we reached Kanakpura Road(NH-209), it was pure cruising past Shivanasamudra to reach the town of Kollegala.Riding cautiously through the shortest route known to us through our previous visits, we were out of the town and at the foot of the mighty BR.
TIME: 09:45 hrs

RIDE 3: (Sailing through the heavenly ranges)

Alright this is one stretch we’d never get tired of riding. I had told the others about our last visit to this place, where we had encountered about 10-12 wild elephants and about 5 bison. As we began the ride into the ranges, we rode at a slow pace making sure we do not disturb the wildlife and yeah looking out for the same as well.

The lush green surroundings kept us satisfied. After about 15mins we stopped at the standard BR lake stop only to find the water fading off. We continued further the temperature took a steep dip & it became cool as we reached the top.
TIME: 10:30 hrs

We were greeted at the top by the cool breeze gushing at the top. We roamed around the temple visiting the various view points. From some the view points, elephants can be seen as ants moving amidst the thick forests. After spending about an hour or so we visited the temple, prayed for everybody we knew and left the temple premises.
We went to a hotel on the top for some hot tea & biscuits. After having which we bid adieu to our BR hills 🙂
TIME: 11:45 hrs

RIDE 4: (BR hills – Kollegala – Maddur Tifany’s)

This was a non-stop 120kms continuous riding. As we left BR, we cruised at a slow pace within the forest area. After which we resumed our cruising mode to reach Kollegala. Once we were out of Kollegala, the temperatures shot back again. Dany raced away forwards as Vishu & myself stuck together cruising at a decent pace. As we both reached the T-junction near Mallavali we couldn’t find Dany, but as we had decided earlier that Maddur was the next stop we continued further.

The road which connects Mallavalli to Maddur is one stretch which gives me creeps. It had been patched up to some extend but still lots of pot holes present. But Vishu & me kept a decent pace even on this road and his loud horn gave us all the road clearance we needed :P. Dodging the pot-holes & patches we reached Mysore road (SH-17). It was a huge relief reaching back the highway, we continued further to reach Maddur Tiffany’s and were quite surprised not find Dany.

We called him up; we came to know that he was still waiting for us at the T-junction about 25-30kms back. So we both grabbed a bottle of cold water and decided to wait for Dany to join us. Nearly 20mins into the wait, when we had just begun to relax, in came like the Dany like a bullet on a bullet :P. he had taken less then half the time taken by us ha-ha!!
TIME: 14:15 hrs

Ah lunch/breakfast at this place is something we don’t miss when we hit SH-17. We had great food and little coffee. Once our tummies were satisfied we fooled around the swing for some more time and left towards Bengaluru.
TIME: 15:00 hrs
RIDE 5: (Maddur – Ramnagara – Bengaluru)
This was 80kms stretch of formal riding. We did stretch without a break. With our tummies full all we had to do was stay awake ha-ha. SH-17 being a smooth 4-lane offered very less resistance. We rode at a decent pace throughout to reach bakery.
TIME: 16:45hrs

Until next time Cia \m/

51) Somnathapura & Srirangapatna – Archeo Ride: (20/3/2012)

with 2 comments

Place: Somanthapura & Sri Rangapatna.
Distance: 350kms in total.
Directions: Bengaluru – Maddur – Somanthpura – Srirangapatna – Maddur – Bengaluru..
Particiapants: Chethan(Zethu) > Karthik (Sp).
Bikes: Avenger > Pulsar.
Previous visit: PanchapalliDam.
Facebook Page: Somanthpura & Srirangapatna Album.
This was another excellent run to cover these places of archaeological importance. Most of the riding was done below the hot sun, so it was a little tiring but the excellent roads made it up for it.
It had been 2 weeks since our last ride to PP reservoir in Tamil Nadu. Initially we planned to cover only Somnathpur and then it changed to Somnathpur & Talakad. And yeah Zehu was the only one on the confirmed list.

Yeah I was up at around 04:00hrs, had some coffee, did a few push-ups & was all set to ride. We met up at Rajarajeswari nagar Arch, as scheduled and left Bengaluru.
TIME: 06:00 hrs
RIDE 1: (Bengaluru – Maddur Tiffany’s)
This was an 80kms stretch of pure cruising. 4-lane state highway made riding easy. With only one tea break on the way we reached Maddur Tiffany’s for breakfast. We had a light breakfast and left MT.
TIME: 08:15 hrs

RIDE2: (Maddur Tiffany’s – Somnathpura)
This was a 60kms stretch which had a mixture of good & bad roads. As we left Maddur, we took a left deviation towards Mallavalli. This stretch is in seriously in a very bad state, but one thing to cheer about is the slush green fields on either side of the roads. After reaching Mallavali we took a right deviation to continue towards Somnathpura, this stretch initially had great roads, after which there were no roads at all. So.., after riding on the muddy roads for quite sometime we reached Somnathpura.
TIME: 10:00 hrs

The Chennakeshava temple at this place is constructed in Hoysala style of architecture. Lots of carvings of Gods, Goddesses, animals, musicians etc., can be clearly seen. This temple has perfect symmetry and was constructed during the reign of Narasimha III (Yeah I’ve done my homework alright :P)

So… as the sun was up, we sat in the shade outside the temple taking rest. We scrapped the plan of going to Talakadu and decided to head back home via SH-17(Mysoreroad) again.
TIME: 11:00 hrs
RIDE 3: (Somnathpura – Srirangapatna)
This was about a 40kms stretch through peaceful green fields. As we passed the town of Bannur, the thought of covering Srirangapatna occurred to us, we headed towards SH-17 & then towards Srirangapatna.
TIME: 12:00 hrs

Alright listen I’ll be giving a brief overview of the places to visit at his wonderful town. We spent 2hours at this place pulling off 2 complete laps of the entire town on our bikes. So… here’s the list of places:
1.Dariya Daulat Bagh: It was Tippu’s summer palace built in 1784. It is completely a teak structure with beautiful rich paintings. Guns, Swords, Daggers, Medals, Coins which were used during Tippu’s reign are displayed here.
2. Gumbaz: Burial chamber of Tippu, his father (Hyder Ali) & mother (Fatima). Interior walls of this place are covered with tiger stripes as they were Tippu’s favourite.
3. Ghosai ghat & Sangama: About 1 km from the Gumbaz, this is a famous picnic spot. The river from here flows into the Mettur dam in Tamil Nadu.

4. Jama Masijid: This was Tippu’s favourite mosque. It has an unusually small dome.
5. The Obelisk: Place where Tippu breathed his last, trying to stop the invasion on British. His body was lying dead here for two days before the locals discovered it.

6. Captain Bailey’s Dungeon: Tippu’s prisoners of war were imprisoned here. Prison hooks onto which the prisoners were chained still remain in the dungeon. Once a cannon ball had rolled back & pierced the ceiling of the dungeon, this is another thing that has to be observed at this place.
7. Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple: It is the main temple, opened throughout the year. Lots of gift shops are present outside the temple. Bought a lots gifts for friends & family back home 🙂
8. Lal Mahal: This is the main Srirangapatna fort. This fort was constructed in Indo-Islamic style. It was unfortunately closed during our visit.
9. Thomas Innman’s dungeon: Okay this is a less famous place, but trust me the best among others. Similar to Bailey’s dungeon, prisoners were held captive here. But at his place the entire dungeon is covered with a pit and river water could be released by opening gates into this pathway. This would lead the dungeon surrounded with water. (Like the “He-man” castle haha :P)

So those are the important places that have to be covered in case you visit. After the rounds we left this wonderful place unwillingly.
TIME: 14:00 hrs

RIDE 4: (Srirangapatna – Maddur Tiffany’s(Old) – Bengaluru)
This was about a 130kms stretch with one lunch stop in between. As we left Srirangapatna we cruised along SH-17 at a fairly decent pace to reach Mandya for some re-fuelling. Then proceeded further towards Maddur to reach the original Maddur Tiffany’s.
TIME: 15:30 hrs

After having heavy lunch, we left MT. We covered the next 80kms easily, all we had to do was stay awake haha… the heavy lunch and the hot sun made us feel dizzy.
So with some no nonsense riding we reached the JnanaBharati split stop thanked each other for participating in the run & headed back to our respective homes.
TIME: 18:00 hrs

Until next time Cia \m/

47) Mekedatu & Sangama: (16/12/2011)

with 4 comments

Place: Mekedatu & Sangama.
Distance: 100 x 2 = 200kms.
Directions: Bengaluru – Kanakpura – Sangama – Mekedatu.
Particiapants: Madhu (Barca) > Manohar (Notorious) > Karthik (Sp).
Bikes: GS 150> CB Unicorn > Pulsar150.
Previous visit: KanvaReservoir – 2nd anniversary run.
Facebook Page: Mekedatu & Sangama Album.
Budget: Rs300.
Mekedatu is a dangerous, fast flowing, and scenic water spot. Last visit to this place nearly two years back almost took my leg away, well this time things were different, the forest almost took our legs away ha-ha!!

Initially the plan was to visit a reservoir and forest in Tamil Nadu. But like always, we prefer Plan B – unplanned one. Manu & Madhu were the only people on the confirmed list. So after finalizing the people and bikes we crashed.
TIME: 23:00 hrs (15/12/2011)
As usual I was up at around 05:00 hrs, had a sip of coffee did a few push-ups and was all set go. Manu arrived at my place at about 05:45hrs & as we waited for Madhu, Manu and myself were discussing other options. Manu suggested Mekedatu, as he hadn’t seen the actual place. Though I was taken back at the suggestions after the previous visit to this place, it was time put aside the fear and go back to this wonderful place. We departed as soon as soon as Madhu reached my place.
TIME: 06:45 hrs

RIDE I: (Bengaluru – Kanakpura)
This was a 40-50kms stretch. Madhu said he knew a shortcut to reach Kanakpura Road, so we followed him. Believe me it was one kickass route, through thick trees on mud roads and saved a lot of time. Once we reached Kanakpura road it was just formality, we rode at a decent pace negotiating the curves of NH-209 to perfection to reach the town for breakfast.
TIME: 08:15 hrs
KANAKPURA: (Breakfast stop)
Alright…. We ordered some hot breakfast and coffee. Yeah as we ate the light breakfast, we again had a discussion about the destination. BR hills & Muthati were the among the hot favourites, but finally we decided to stick on to Mekedatu. After the breakfast we hit road without wasting anytime.
TIME: 08:45 hrs

RIDE – II: (Kanakpura – Mekedatu)
This was another 40-50kms stretch, but we took our own sweet time completing this stretch. We made sure we rode slow to enjoy the surroundings and the curves as we had no intentions of returning back home till evening ha-ha!!
We rode at a decent pace, back to back keeping the formation intact. We took lot of pit-stops, sitting on the road, enjoying the fresh air and scenic view all around us.
The final stretch to Mekedatu comprises of 2-3 hairpin curves, we switched of our engines and allowed our bikes to take us for the nest 3-4kms to reach Sangama.
TIME: 10:00 hrs

First things first, we parked our bikes under a tree. We started fooling around climbing up trees. I guess our basic instincts got the better of us ha-ha. Even the few monkeys at the place were taken aback.
As we moved on, I received another shocker. The place had a complete make over, restaurants, temples, gardens, clear boards, inspection bungalows etc.,

Two years back it had and absolute hardcore isolated look, with only on small shop and nothing else.
As we reached the river we were glad that the water level was low. Last visit it was here that I crushed my knee against a boulder as fell into the flowing waters. So I requested Manu who was the tallest among us to carry my bag which had their jackets and other belongings. We cautiously crossed the river and reached the other side.
TIME: 10:15 hrs

So…, yeah we had reached the other side. And as we did we heard there was elephants spotting near by :D, there was no stopping me from rushing to the spot. Jumping across the rocky terrain and running we reached the river shore to find these two huge elephants on the other side i.e from the Muthati forest.
Alright…, there are two ways of reaching Mekedatu after you cross Sangama. One way is the normal way by taking the bus and then there’s our way by picking up basic tools like a stick and a knife and walking 12-15kms through the forest filled with snakes and other wild creatures.

As we started the walk, we picked up our sticks and started chatting and cracking jokes. The trees were initially lean but as we proceeded it got real thick and we felt completely isolated. The silence was something we were enjoying but yeah it was scary too.
We were eagerly waiting for some wild animal to jump out of the forest when all of a sudden Manu and me who were in front felt the ground trembling (just like in the movies). As we turned back we could see Madhu, and yeah behind him was a sight I won’t be forgetting for a long long time.

About 30-40 huge bulls were charging right at us, in a matter of seconds we jumped out the muddy trail & hopped onto some rocky terrain beside the fast flowing waters. Trust me we were saved by a whisker 🙂
We waited for the gang to pass and then we resumed. After about 30 minutes of another isolated walk we encountered them again. Believe me they meant business, few of them actually turned back and started walking towards us. So we decided to go off the off-road :P. We continued along the fast flowing waters on the rocky terrain and rejoined the path only to find more bulls.

Alright…, we worked out a detailed plan and the plan was simple “walk right past it :P”… and thankfully it worked as we didn’t make any sudden movements to piss it off.
Finally the forest adventure ended as we reached Mekdatu 🙂
(Yeah all these encounters with bulls might sound funny, but trust me we had the same notion of bulls as simple creatures but this was something else)
TIME: 11:45 hrs

Ah yeah there she was eagerly waiting for my arrival. We took some rest at the sit out and started to descend the rocky steps. We spotted a small snake on the steps but it was not worth the catch so we moved on to reach the place. And guess what, we were the only 3 at the entire place. Yup we were very glad to have the place for ourselves, and yeah it also meant extra dangerous.
We removed our shoes and started to explore with caution as the force of the water was simply terrifying, the thunderous roar of the water hitting the rocks could be heard during the walk only. Madhu & Manu were totally happy & satisfied with the place; I mean yeah it was worth all the efforts put into the walk. Continuing further we reached the final tip of Mekedatu where the water splits by hitting a boulder on which we were happily sitting.

We were at the tip; the clear instructions were no stupid and foolish tricks as nobody was around. We started fooling around, Manu and madhu threw their sticks into the water to examine the force, after further fooling around we took a small 20mins nap on the boulder.
After a while we woke up safely thankfully not falling off our beds haha!! We headed back to the sit out. We didn’t even have water in the bottle, so took extra rest and decided to walk back through the forest.
TIME: 13:00 hrs

As we walked back, my right knee which had problems from the start snapped. But we continued further and Madhu and Manu suggested we visit another spot along the way. And there she was Mekedatu-2 aKa Goatiedatu.
GOATIE-DATU: (Mekedatu-2)

Well yeah the name was coined by us only. But yeah this place was simply brilliant; it had a balance of fast flowing waters and small peaceful streams. The water was crystal clear and first thing we did was quench our thirst. Further we washed our faces and started to explore the place to find trees fallen down due to the force, small falls etc.,
We spent some quality time at this place and as we left the place found my shoe sole had a huge crack in it and my right knee was in deep shit pain.
TIME:  13:45 hrs

As we continued further, we kept laughing all the way to find the biggest hurdle of the trip. About 100-130 bulls were on either side of the muddy trail. And as per the day’s proceedings, even a tiger seemed less dangerous than these creatures. Slowly without any sudden movements we started the 10min walk (literally) amidst the bulls smiling at every creature ha-ha!!
Once we were out, we spotted a snake but unfortunately couldn’t catch it as it disappeared into the woods. We continued further taking a shortcut to reach Sangama.
TIME: 14:30 hrs

As we reached Sangama, Madhu & Manu jumped into the waters for a much needed rest as I sat ashore. After spending about 30-40mins we crossed back the river cautiously to reach our bikes. And yeah I still had my stick with me (latter it had a name too:P), it was all ready to ride back to Bangalore with usas well.
TIME:15:30 hrs
RIDE III: (Sangama- Kanakpura)
This was about 40 kms stretch. We rode at a decent pace without taking any breaks to reach Kanakpura hotel for a much deserved lunch.
We entered the hotel limping, and ordered a very heavy lunch, ah yeas it tasted so much better since we had earned it totally. After a heavy Oota we washed our faces and left.
TIME: 16:45 hrs

RIDE: IV: (Kanakpura – Bengaluru)
This was about 50kms formality stretch; all we had to do was stay awake as we had eaten a very lunch. As the sun started going down, the shadow formed on the road as we rode is something you should have a look. Haha we looked like warriors. We did some smooth riding on NH-209 to reach Bengaluru.
TIME: 17:45 hrs
Sat at the NICE road exit and spoke for about 30mins and left to reach our respective homes.
TIME: 18:30 hrs

Well this was one kickass adventure, on of the best till date. It surely stands up with the other adventures like
Pearlvalley – In search of Elephants,
Skandagiri night trek – Misty Death trek,
Kabbalu trek – Peak into the next life,
TG reservoir – Fun run etc.,
It was crazy on the part of us to walk 12-15kms through the forest encountering snakes and bulls but  trust me it was worth all of it”
MANU: Led the way throughout and it was him who suggested this place else we wouldn’t have had such a great adventure.
MADHU: Known for his reserved nature, but this time kept the spirits up with his jokes and not forget his golden find “Goatie-datu”.
SP: Brought back the “Weapon of mass destruction”, ( Haha now you know what the stick has been named)
Until next time, ta-da Ciaa\m/

41) Muthathi – forest ride (Muthati): (31/8/2011)

with 2 comments

Place: Muthathi – The Forest ride(Mutati).

Distance: 100 x 2 = 200kms.
Directions: Bengaluru > Bidadi > Chenpatna > Sathnur > Mutathi > Sathnur > Kanakpura > Bengaluru.
Participants: Manohar > Sp.
Bikes: GS150 > Pulsar.

This was another 200kms classic and formal trip to this wonderful place. It was a green forest ride throughout and Bird was definitely the word ha-ha !!

As far as the planning goes, initially we had thought of Mahadevpura the bird sanctuary. When asked others about their call on this one, only 4 of us were ready to go. So the departure timings was set to 06:00hrs and we crashed.
TIME:23:00 (30/8/2011)

I was up at around 4am, had coffee and did a few push-ups, and I was all set to go ha-ha. I left my place at around 5:30 am, and went near college to find nobody. The clock hit 6’O clock and still nobody were to be seen, so called up others. Manu responded back and joined in a few minutes. Both us waited for a good 30 minutes and kept calling others and finally when we didn’t get any reply we decided to change the place to Muthati. After a 60 minutes wait we departed.
TIME: 06:30 hrs.

RIDE I: (Bengaluru – Bidadi)
This was 30kms stretch. As the sun was just coming up, it was icy cold. We rode at a decent pace to cruise past RRMC and pulled over at a hotel at bidadi to have the famous “Bidadi Thate Idly” for breakfast. And trust me it is one of the must-have foods on SH-17 (Mysore road). We spent about 30 minutes on breakfast and sat on road side having coffee.
TIME: 07:30 hrs.

RIDE II: (Bidadi – Chenpatna – Sathnur)
This was a 60kms stretch, but yeah excellent roads throughout. We started from Bidadi to cover 25-30kms cruising past Ramnagar to reach Sathnur circle in Chenpatna. From here we took a left turn to continue on the Kabbala road.
This road is perfect for riding, surface and the surroundings are excellent. And after 20-30 minutes we spotted the Kabbalu hill, to be frank I was numb staring at that hillock. It took me back to 26th of January 2011 ( Click here to read the article). We took a small 10 mins stop and continued further to reach Sathnur.
TIME: 08:15 hrs

RIDE III: ( Sathnur – Muthati)
Alright this was the main intention of this entire trip, the “ Muthathi forest ride” began from here. Once we passed Sathnur about 5kms was in pretty bad condition. Once we completed this stretch Manu spotted 2 peacocks on the road-side. We rode very slowly through the forest enjoying the greenery and not disturbing the flora & fauna of the place. The forest was lush green and seemed much thicker when compared to our last visit to this place on 19/03/2011 (Click here to read about our previous visit)
Okay here is on of the “to-do” things during the ride, there are several places where you do not require your engine running. So switch off your engines and allow your bike to take you… and trust me don’t be surprised if your doing 80+ kmphr ha-ha!!.But yeah safety of not only oneself but also the animals must be taken into account.
We spotted a lot different species of birds and small creatures like squirrels etc., after sometime we reached the famous temple on the way, we parked our bikes and went exploring into the forest.
We reached the top of a small falls, but the surroundings was just magnificent. Then we realized that we hadn’t reached the actual place only ha-ha, so without wasting much time we carried on to reach Muthathi.
TIME: 10:00 hrs.

We reached the place where we had spent our last visit. To our amazement the place was totally flooded. The river Cauvery was in full flow, the force was tremendous and Mutathi being known for a lot cheating deaths we didn’t want to any risks. So we decided to go in search of a safer palce.
Ps: The actual place “ Mutathi” is not a very neat place, so going off-road once you spot the river is a good move.
So in a matter of 10-15 minutes we were at the new spot after some off road biking. We found for ourselves the perfect stop where a small stream had branched out from the main river. The forest surrounding us was thick, and it was very peaceful. We took off our shoes and kept our feet in the cold flowing waters after which we went on a small walk along the river bed. We did spot some weird insects like a pink dragonfly, purple dragonfly etc… After which we had a quick nap and decided to leave this wonderful place unwillingly.
TIME: 11:30 hrs

RIDE IV: ( Muthati – Kanakpura )
This was about a 60kms stretch. We decided to take the Kanakpura route and make the ride a little and nice circuit. So we rode pretty slow from Muthati to spot a variety of birds and small creatures. Oh yeah we saw dead squirrel on the road too, carried it to the roadside and wished for its peace. We took a lot of breaks amidst the forest on purpose as we wanted to grab all the fresh oxygen before heading back to the city, Once we reached Sathnur we rode at a decent pace to reach Kanakpura.
TIME: 12:45 hrs.

KANAKPURA : (Brunch stop)
We stopped at our regular hotel in Kanakpura as our tummies were grumbling. We had a good brunch to fill up our tummies as we had another 50kms to go.

RIDE V: (Kanakpura – Bengaluru)

This was a 50kms stretch. It was just formality to complete this stretch. The roads were very good with excellent curves and scenery. We reached the entry of NICE road and took it to reach Bsk 3rd stage in a matter of 15-20 minutes. We sat at the NICE road exit for about 30 mins and decided to leave back to our respective homes to mark the end of this classic trip..

38) MM hills, BR hills, Shivanasamudra: (7/7/2011)

with 26 comments

Place: MM hills, BR hills, Gaganchukki & Barachukki.

Distance: 600kms in total.
Bengaluru > Maddur > Mallavali > Gaganchukki > Kollegala > MM hills > Kollegala > BR hills > Kollegala > Barachukki > Maddur > Bengaluru.
Participants: Zethu > Sp.
Bikes: Avenger.
Previous Visit: Chitradurga & VaniVilas.
Facebook Page: MMhills, BRhills, Shivanasamudra album.
Budget: Rs550/h.
(You should go through this, no non-sense writing like me. Keeps it plain and simple).

Our biggest one day trips till date, 600kms of riding through forests, ghat roads, highways & village roads in a day. Closest encounter with elephants & bisons on bike.
Overall an excellent experience and 18hours on the road was simply heaven.

It was 2 weeks since our visit to the brilliant Chitradurga Fort & Vani Vilas Sagar Dam, Zethu wanted to ride out of Bangalore, Maddur, MM hills, Shivnasamudra were the options.
As far as the planning goes, we decided to cover Gaganchukki & MM hills. After we agreed on this, we crashed.
TIME: 23:30hrs (6/7/2011)
Next day I woke up at 04:00hrs did a few push ups and had some coffee. Went down as Zethu arrived we decided to take Mysore road ( SH-17)
Ps: Kanakpura Road is a better option, as Maddur to Mallavali road is horrible. But as it was dark we chose SH-17.
TIME: 05:00hrs

RIDE I: (Bengaluru–Chenpatna-Maddur)
This initial stretch was for about 80 kms, SH-17 an excellent 4-lane road offered very less trouble. We rode at a decent pace to reach Chenpatna & decided to take a tea break.
TIME: 06:15hrs
An excellent tea on the highway had 3 cups and continued towards Maddur which was around 25-30kms from there. In about half an hour we reached Maddur for breakfast.
TIME: 07:00hrs

Though both of us prefer South Indian breakfast, we pulled over at this place for a change to have breakfast. We also realized it had been exactly a year since our Epic school Reunion at Manchinbele Dam. After 10-15 mins of a quick breakfast we left.
TIME: 07:30hrs
RIDE II 😦 Maddur- Gaganchukki)
This stretch was for about 50kms, but had lots of bad stretches. So we rode slowly evading all the potholes and bad patches. Once we reached Mallavali the roads turned good and we continued at a decent pace to reach Gaganchukki – The first falls of Shivanasamudra.
TIME: 08:30hrs

We were very shocked as we were the only ones in the entire place, not even my good friend- White Bull wasn’t seen anywhere. But we were more than happy to have the entire place to ourselves ha-ha!! After spending a good 45 minutes this place just sitting at staring at the wonderful waterfalls, we left.
TIME: 09:15hrs

RIDE III: (Gaganchukki-MM hills)
This was a 120 kms stretch, we rode at a decent pace to reach Kolegala and we continued further towards the hills. As we left Kollegala, It was forest all around us, and the roads were very good. We spoke about our college days, imitating lecturers and we were pretty much laughing all throughout this stretch.
We took a small break; we got the first glimpse of the hills and trust me it was a mighty range. We could also hear the clouds rub each other creating a thunderous sound for a good 15minutes at a stretch.
TIME: 10:30hrs
After the break we continued our journey through the magnificent forests to reach the Arch which was the foot of MM hills.
TIME: 11:00hrs

RIDE IV: (MM hills ghat roads)
As we started ascending, the roads were very good. There are 27 hair-pin curves, and Zethu was negotiating each curve with joy. The scenery all along was just breath taking. But all this didn’t last for long, after we completed 13th HP curve, the roads turned bad, and we were forced to take several breaks.
As we continued we actually started descending, and we could find a lot of monkeys all along. The road continued to be bad, but as we reached the temple the view we got was simply heaven. It was worth riding through that bad stretch.
TIME: 12:00hrs

It’s a very civilized place. Very much like Tirupathi, fortunately there wasn’t much crowd on the day we went. So we prayed and hung around the premises for sometime and left as there was not much to see.
TIME: 12:45hrs

RIDE V: (MM hills Ghat)
We rode back the along the same way. The ride back was a quick one as it was a decent; in about 30-40minutes flat we were back at the arch.
Ps: Hogenekal falls is just 40kms from MM hills, though we thought of visiting the mighty falls we cancelled it and decided to head back home in the same route we had come.
TIME: 13:15hrs

RIDE VI: (MM hills – Kollegala)
We continued our way back to Kollegala, after covering a few kilometers we decided to stop amidst the forest and take a break. We were a little disappointed about MM hills though the last scenic view which we got is simply indescribable. And also it is believed that all our wishes at MM hills come true. Then I looked at Zethu and asked whether he could ride to BR hills as well. Zethu a soul just as crazy as me , well he was pumped up and we started riding back Kollegala when all of a sudden it started raining heavily just for a few minutes , and calmed down to drizzling.
TIME: 14:30hrs

RIDE VII: (Kollegala-BR hills)
As it was Drizzling it made riding conditions ideal, we took the shorter route from Kollegala which runs through village outskirts. It was not long before we got the first glimpse of the mighty BR hills.
TIME: 15:30hrs
We continued further to reach the entrance, spoke to guard and registered our bikes at the forest check post and finally entered BR hills.
Ps: Forest travel timings are between 06:00hrs to 18:00hrs.
TIME: 15:45hrs

RIDE VIII: (BR hills – 10 to12 Wild Elephants, 5 to 6 Bison’s, 1 fat lazy eagle: P)
It was my 4th or 5th visit to this wonderful place, I was telling Zethu how I hadn’t spot any animals on our previous visit to BR hills. Next moment my voice had stopped, there was this herd of elephants (probably 7-8 elephants) which had blocked the road. We stopped a few minutes and allowed it to take its own time to move. We stood there looking at these big creatures, and we decided to move on as we didn’t want to disturb it, as we were the visitors.
As we continued further we saw another huge elephant with big tuskers, as it was alone it meant more danger so we stopped for a few minutes and rode on.
Ps: Elephants are most dangerous when alone or when they feel their young ones are in danger; else they are very peaceful creatures.

As we rode on, I was choked ha-ha; no words were coming out of my mouth. Though many visitors in cars warned us that there were elephants ahead and advised us to turn back, it only got us more excited and that was the exact reason we were there in the first place.

We spotted 5-6 wild bison grazing on road side; there ferocious charge was something to be aware off. But these were really lazy and even posed for a photograph ha-ha..
We continued further to reach the famous lake of BR hills, we had to stop here and we kept our senses alert as it was a wild day so far. As we continued we spotted another herd of elephants hiding amidst the bushes (I was literally high). Finally after all the excitement we reached the top.
TIME: 16:30hrs

Believe me, the weather was something else. It had just stopped drizzling, the cool breezy wind kept gushing at our faces. First things first visited the temple and prayed for everybody i knew and caught hold of a local kid and started chatting away. He told us that he had spotted 30 elephants the previous day along with a cheetah and all along the road side on his way to Kollegala.
Now to be frank the news got us excited & scared at the same time. After a good 30 minutes in the wonderful atmosphere of BR hills we departed.
TIME: 17:00hrs

RIDE IX: (BR hills-Kollegala-Barachukki)
This stretch was for about 60kms, we rode the forest stretch cautiously looking out for animals. I remember telling Zethu if we spot a cheetah it meant I belonged at this palce and I would live here like Mowgli ha-ha.. As we reached the check post we bid a good bye to the forest guards and we rode on for 10 kms and took a break to have some snacks.
TIME: 17:30hrs
It was only morning that we had eaten at Maddur , so we had some snacks and continued on. As wer reached Kollegala outskirts, we stopped at the border of Kollegala in fornt of the sign board as our bodies were starting to show signs of fatigue.
TIME: 18:00hrs
The sun was going down, we looked at the signboard which said “Shivanasamudra”, and we knew Barachukki was the only missing link in this entire trip, completing Barachukki also would mean a complete all round trip. So we rode on to reach Barachukki waterfalls.
Ps: The falls closes at 18:00hrs, but we spoke to the guard and he left us in.
TIME: 18:15hrs

BARACHUKKI: (Attainment of Inner Peace :P)
We parked the Avy, for some well deserved rest. We sat in front of the falls and just kept staring at it. It was such a wonderful feeling to forget all the city life, and worries associated with it. After spending about 30 minutes at this place we left back as darkness descended.
TIME: 18:45hrs
RIDE X: (Barachukki- Mallavalli- Maddur)
We rode at a slower pace as it was dark, we stopped at the outskirts of Mallavali and collected firewood from the trees nearby and tied to the bike (with the shoe lace on my hand- which gave up on Kabbalu death trek) as we plans of camping on the highway and returning to Bangalore the next day.
The Mallavalli – Maddur stretch was the scary and fun too, it was pitch black, and a two lane very bad road. It was filled with pot holes and deep patches. The next 90 minutes was complete hell ride. The cars and Lorries coming from the opposite direction with blinding high beam, and not forget the invisible bullock carts ha-ha… After a grueling 90mins we reached SH-17 our home ground. We were overjoyed that we had survived that stretch. We rode at faster pace to reach Maddur Tiffany’s for a well deserved meal after 14 hours.
TIME: 20:45hrs

We had a very nice meal, sat outside looking at the moon and speaking about the crazy day we just had even though we had 80 more kilometers to home. We decided to go home directly and the camping plan was pulled off.
TIME: 21:30hrs

RIDE: XI: (Maddur-Bengaluru)
This was a 80kms stretch, and even though it was just formality completing this stretch, our bodies were put to their limits not to forget Avy. We took regular breaks at Chenpatna, Ramnagar & Bidadi to reach my home.
TIME: 23:00hrs

This might sound funny, but we stayed up till 02:00hrs the next day watching movies. And finally Zethu crashed. For a guy who had just rode 600kms, it was time for some well deserved nap. I stayed up all night, sitting with my pet waiting for the sun to come up.

I would like to conclude this long article with by saying the following “this trip could be called the road trip which attained almost idleness, as there were no boundaries, no goals, no destination, no limits. It was freedom all the way.
And I guess we’re the first clan from Bengaluru to cover these four places in a day on bike as per my knowledge. 600kms in a day was no easy task, And oh yeah starting off with just Gaganchukki & MMhills , and covering all these places was something else:) “

ZETHU: Was on god-mode, rode the entire 600kms. Couldn’t have thought of a better person to speak and crack jokes all along.
AVY: Had pushed the bike to its limits, but it withstood everything. Next day first thing we did in the morning is have a look at this baby and made sure everything was alright. It was more than just a bike, a true companion.
SP: Only wish I could have tied an elephant to the bike and got it back home instead of the firewood ha-ha!!
Until Next time Cia \m/

31) Muthathi (Muthati) : (19/03/2011)

with 3 comments

Place: Muthathi .
Distance: 100 x 2 = 200kms.
Bikes: Pulsar 200 (3) > GS > Pulsar150.
Participants: Vineet > Darshan > Gagan > Manoj > Chethu > Gauti > Chinta > Manu >Sp .
1) Bangalore > Kanakpura > Sathanur > Muthathi .
2) Bangalore > Chenpatna > Sathanur > Muthathi .
Previous visit: Himvadgopalaswamy hills.
If you have less than 5 mins : Muthathi in < 5minutes.

Muthathi – Place known for its mishaps. It’s about 100kms from Bangalore , no doubt the place is very beautiful with breath taking scenery , but the whirlpools and Strong currents are some of things one would want to avoid, Oh yea the Black magicians too . The actual place muthathi isn’t very good filled with litter…So going off road once you spot the river is a better option.

Now that’s about the place… looking at these facts one could say that its kind of dangerous place to visit… but as long as you have your senses under control and don’t try to do anything careless everything will be fine.
Okay after a lots of calls , texts , etc etc Manu , chetu , Gauti , confirmed their spots. Vineetu , Darshan , Gagan were yet to confirm , others said they couldn’t make it. So the departure time was set at 06:00hrs next morning and we all crashed.
TIME: 23:00 hrs (18/03/2011)
THE WAIT : (Assemble & Breakfast)
Woke up at 4 am , warmed up by doing a few push ups ha-ha !! had coffee and took my bike out at 5:15am and allowed it to rev for a good 5mins and took it to the petrol bunk . After filling the petrol went near college to find nobody so went to Gauti’s house and picked him up and cameback to college to find Chethu & Chinta , Manu joined us shortly.
Now the wait began for Vineet , Darshan , Gagan …after an hour our tummies started grumbling so went to a Hotel Siddarta near our college and had one of the best breakfasts till date. ( Till date I eat there 😀 , Awesome food )
Finally after 1hour 45 minutes we heard real loud roaring noise far away ha-ha !! This meant only one thing…. The rest of our group were somewhere near by… manoj also joined us .. finally we left towards NICE ROAD.

RIDE I : ( Bengalore – Kanakpura)
Kanakpura is about 60kms from Bangalore the rest of the bunch went to fill petrol Gauti & myself reached the NICE road entrance and were waiting for others. In a matter of 10mins everybody regrouped and we started cruising on the NICE road at a decent pace.

After 10-15mins we were out of the NICE road & on Kanakpura road. Then Vineet and me stopped as he said he wanted to draw some cash from the ATM. From then on it was non-stop riding to Kanakpura. We realized that Darshan , Vineet & the others hadn’t finished their breakfast , so we stopped at Kankpura hotel for breakfast
RIDE II: ( Kanakpura – Sathnur)
After a good breakfast (MasalaDosa, Idly, Vada , coffee/Tea) , we stood outside for sometime… I asked as to how many were ready for Mekedat as it was almost the same distance as Muthathi from Kanakpura… but we stuck to the original plan and headed towards Sathnur.
Sathnur is 20-25kms form kanakpura , Excellent roads offered very little trouble ina matter of 15-20mins we were at Sathnur . A left deviation from here would lead us to Muthathi (SIGNBOARDS are available and clear)
TIME: 10:00hrs

RIDE III (Sathnur – Muthathi ; Excellent Ride )
The last 20kms was simply brilliant, the initial 5kms was a little patchy… so we stopped in the middle of the road sat on the road and spoke for sometime and continued after 10 minutes.
After this there was no stopping us at all… the forest curves started , surrounding became magnificent … it was total downhill with steep curves… we switched off our engines and negotiated the curves with all the speed …and believe me we were moving at 60-75kmphr. All we did was fool around and save petrol & oh yea look for animals too 🙂
As we went deeper into the forest the scenery became even better, negotiating the curves became real fun. The Awesome roads with excellent curves & the breath taking scenery had left us all speechless. Finally after 45mins of excellent forest ride we spotted the Kaveri river on the left side of the road. The trees to the left of the road were green & to the right side of the road were dry ha-ha!!
TIME: 10:45hrs

RIDE IV: ( Off-road)
We knew that the actual place Muthathi wasn’t that good so decided ride along the river until we get a good place. Finally we found a very beautiful and scenic spot far away…. So went off road welcoming the muddy humps, boulders , rocks , gravels etc etc…
TIME: 11:00hrs

Once we reached the terrific spot, we parked out bikes in line, got our shoes off and had these in our head
1) Don’t wander off into deep waters.
2) Always be near a boulder or a tree, so that u can grab on to something .
Actually the river was very calm and peaceful, the moment we kept our legs underwater fishes started eating the dust of our feet, it tickled in the beginning but latter when we got used to it … we allowed the fishes to clean up our feet 😛
The place was very scenic and we collected all the fresh oxygen we could before we head back home ha-ha!!

RIDE V : ( Muthathi – Sathnur ; Heat wavy ride)
Finally after a good nap & foot cleaned thanks to the fishes we decided to head back. Wore our shoes back and got the engines started. As we rode we could feel the heat winds hitting our faces and made us real dizzy… started going back at a real slow pace as we didn’t want to leave the beautiful place but latter we started picking up speed as the head was becoming unbearable.
Finally we reached Sathnur.

SATHNUR: ( Drinks Break)
We stopped at Sathnur for cooling down. Bought Coconut water & Soft drinks sat on our bikes and started cooling down. Then I spotted a board which said “ Kabbalu 6kms” ha-ha !! Damn that brought a smile to my place and looked at the mountain and felt happy that I was still alive. Then we headed towards kanakpura.
TIME: 13:30hrs

RIDE VI : (Sathnur – NICE ROAD entrance)
Good roads offered very little resistance so kept a constant pace of 70 kmphr.. As we reached kanakpura we took a vote whether to have lunch at Bangalore or Kanakpura….. once everybody decided Bangalore was the next stop .. we rode at a good pace to reach the NICE road entrance on kanakpura Road.
TIME :14:40hrs

There was about 15-20kms to go…after covering 2-3 kms Manoj’s bike ran out of petrol ( okay just another reminder , Vinnet’s , Darshan’s , & Manoj’s bike don’t have Odo , Speedo , Fuel … indicators 😛 )
Everybody were ahead Manoj & me were at the last.. somehow managed 5kms… then we tried all the following
1) Choke , Bike bent down fully.
2) Towing the bike with the help of two bikes from behind
3) Used a coconut tree branch and tried out towing .

Finally told Darshan (+chinta) & Manu (+Chethu) to go to bakery near college & wait while Gauti & myself go and get petrol. The NICE road operators were real nice & allowed us to enter the road again without having to pay . Finally with petrol back in Manoj’s bike Vineet ( +Gagan) , Manoj , Sp (+Gauti) cruised along… and reached our bakery safely to have tea/cofeee etc etc.
TIME : 17:00hrs

The trip turned out to be a memorable one due to the excellent ride, scenic views all along , and the petrol thing 😛 ha-ha !!
Until next time Ciao \m/

28) Kabbaladurga Trek ( Kabbalu Hill) :26/1/2011

with 11 comments

Place: Kabbalu Hill & Kanva.
Distance: (90+10) x 2 = 200 kms
1) Bangalore > Ramnagar > Chenpatna > Left Turn > Kabbalu.
2) Banglaore > Kanakpura > Sathanur > Right Turn > Kabbalu.
Participants: Manu > Sp.
Bikes: GS > Pulsar.
Previous Visit: Chamundi Hills & Balmuri Falls.
Facebook Page: Kabbalu Hill album.
Budget: Rs250/h.

Before I start writing this article, I’m really happy that I’m still alive , this was the trip which almost took me away and left me with great memories to look back .I might have taken the wrong route but sure was a tough one and tested all my will to stay alive.

Okay a few days before 26th I came to know that Kabbalu was not only a dam but a hill which could be trekked. So the plan was trek the hill, then cool down in the waters. After a lot of discussion it was only Manohar & me who were ready to hit the road next day. So Crashed early without having the slightest clue what was instored for the next 15 hours.
TIME: 22:00 hrs

RIDE I : ( Bangalore to Kabbalu)
Morning 04:00hrs I was up & ready, just before leaving my house Alexi ( my pet ) was pulling me back into the house, all these signs made sense after 6-7 hours ha-ha!!! 6:30 am Manu arrived at my place and we left towards Chenpatna via Mysore road(SH-17) . We Chose SH-17 over Kanakpura road because it was still dark and there was a lot of Fog we didn’t want to experience a death ride again like that of Ride to BR hills .

SH-17 a good 4-lane road offered no problems for us .Though it was still foggy we witnessed a great sunrise, we cruised through Bidadi & Ramnagar to reach Chenpatna. A left deviation through this town would lead to the town of kabbalu.

RIDE II: (Chenpatna – Kabbalu)
From Chenpatna Kabbalu is about 20-25kms, it comes before Sathanur. And the roads were pretty good, both the sides thick trees, forest kind of roads. It was a real nice riding through this stretch. Finally after a good 15-20 mins ride we got the glimpse of the hill “Kabbalu”. On top we could see a small white dot – tat was top of the hill, which also marked the end point of the trek.
Kabblau is not that high when altitude comes into the picture, 2500 feet. But much steeper faces compared to other hillocks.
We entered the town of kabbalu parked our bikes near the temple (for safety)& walked about 1.5- 2kms then about 500 meters to reach the foot of the hill.
TIME : 08:00hrs.

TREK I: (Going gets tough with additional Load on my back)
We started to trek up the hill, we didn’t know the proper route so started climbing where ever we could find a path. We met two aged people who were trying to climb as well. They requested me to carry their 2-litre bottle and pooja items for them to the top as I was carrying a bag. This made the trek even more challenging a 2 litre bottle & other items added a lot of weight on my shoulder and I was carrying my helmet too.

The terrain changed to something similar to that of Savandurga , pure rocky terrain , it started to become difficult but fun. The steepness was maddening & the load on my back resulted in me losing lot of energy… And every time I lifted me hand my bag was pulling me back. It was only the beginning of what was in stored for me that day .
TIME: 08:30hrs

About 20-30 minutes of the trek, Manu felt uneasy & said he was giving up this trek. I thought a good 15-20 mins break would set him back on track, but he was pretty serious. And he’s that kind of person who is always ready for challenges. So I was put in a dilemma:
1) Whether to continue & deliver the goods to the top or
2) stay back and take him to safety.

The first option was associated with a lot of risks anything could happen and there was only person to blame “myself”. And also I wasn’t sure where I was heading… but it would also mean breaking a promise to the aged persons who had trusted me..So I asked Manu about the decision to make… he gave me a “thumbs up” … so I took a promise tat he would find shade or go back to the town and find food and shade.
So I continued further in search of the temple on top, along with other old ruined buildings hoping that the terrain would become less steeper.
TIME: 09:00hrs

TREK II: (Test of WILL v/s Facing Death)
After manu’s exit on the trek, it became that much harder for me to climb. The terrain became worse 70-80 degree inclined rock, not to forget the scorching heat of the sun on my head.

The rays of the sun falling directly over my head made me feel Dizzy at times, but one slip would END it all ha-ha!!! (Damn those moments). Every 10-15 steps I took uphill I sat down thinking the madness I had got myself into. Looking back down at the insanely steep terrain made me a little worried about climbing back down.

As it was an odd season to visit, the place was totally burnt out, which didn’t help to keep my spirits up. It looked like a burnt fort awaiting my arrival ha-ha!!! (Yeah I was hallucinating)

TREK III: (Last Test off will)
The temperature kept rising, was feeling dizzy somewhere on top of the mountain with no people around, crazy situation it was. Well the white spot which marked the end of the trek was totally out of my mind, I just wanted to stand on flat ground. And the most annoying part was I had a full 2litre heavy bottle but couldn’t open it as I thought it was kept for some sacred ritual on top.

Thought the steepness would reduce as I went further up , but unfortunately the steepness became insane , at certain places it was one shot one go , else slip to death kind of situations. Scary moments but worth living those. This stretch is something I’ll remember for a long time. Check out snaps of the inclination and the surroundings Ha-ha!! They showed no mercy.

Finally after a lot of balancing, I found myself at the bottom of a few uneven half broken rock foot steps which I thought would lead to the temple on top. And finally something went correct for me that day ha-ha!!!
There’s lot much to say about this stretch , the thoughts that ran into my mind… but it was all part of the experience , It’s very hard to express the fear I felt of not returning home , people i would miss etc . So anyway I was on the top of the world after reaching the top: D
TIME: 10:00hrs

Once I reached the top I was shocked to see the entire top burnt , but the cool breeze was blowing on my face , Whew that was a relief !! I wasn’t sure whether I took the right route but can assure u I took the hard one ha-ha!!

At the top I explored a little, found old abandoned buildings, and then spotted the first of the temples. Here the Nandi originates from the rock itself. But the main destination was still not to be found. The breeze was so strong standing became a tough task.

I put the pooja items inside the temple and found my bag had tore…Well that was a bummer, added to that my shoe lace also gave up… had to tie knots and manage. It was one of those days where everything went wrong and being on top of some cliff hanging on by a thread made things worse. I found a brick and wrote my name on top of some stone knew it wouldn’t remain forever but yea I was proud of myself ha-ha!! I had this scary feeling only once before during the Epic Skandagiri Trip.

Finally after 30minutes found the Gopura, which was seen as a small dot from the road which was far far away like a small streak. Sat in front of the temple looking at the town of kabbalu with heavy thoughts running through my mind. It was so windy I was scared to go the edge of the cliff. After 15-20 minutes at the main destination I wore back my shoes with modifications to my lace tying and decided to head back.
TIME: 11:15hrs

TREK IV: (Climb Down)
As I started to climb down I met a few more people who were just about to reach the top and believe me they were begging for water, so gave off the bottle of water to them and continued.
The climb down was a scary one, as every step required more balance and grip and yea I’m scared of heights too ha-ha!!! Then I sat down and climbing down cautiously keeping my hand on the burning hot rock surface. Bruises started showing up but had to continue as I didn’t have much of a choice. Ankles & knees were literally shivering .crying out in pain.

After 60 minutes of trekking and yea running down the hill reached the place where me and Manu had split off earlier, but as I couldn’t find him realized that he would be in the town. Finally found a better route and ran down even though knees & ankles were shattered, completed the last 10% of the hill in no time and reached the road which would lead to the town. Then I took one final look at the maddening & Scary trek I had been for the past 4-5 hours.
TIME: 12:45pm

As I reached of kabbalu people were staring at me as if they has seen a ghost. The shock on my face still prevailed. I was totally in sweat limping across the town with bruises on my hands. I reached the place where we had parked our bikes but Manu was no where to be seen and the wait began…

The sun was up & directly above my head but leaving that place meant that manu wouldn’t spot me so bought two coconuts and sat on my bike keeping the heat down. After 80-90 minutes off dizzy wait manu showed up whew it was about time. When enquired about his health he said he was okay and was ready to head back.

RIDE III: (Kabbalu – Dhaba – Kanva)
The ride back was a steady one… again riding through the forest kind off road was fun. We stopped for a few moments and we decided to go to Kanva .But before that our tummy’s were crying for food… it was only the previous day we had eaten so headed further to reach SH-17.
20kms form the chenpatna we reached the kanva Dhaba and had a good meal and headed towards kanva.
TIME: 14:15hrs

Seeing the waters of this magnificent place was a huge relief. Parked our bikes and took a dip into the water. Knees ankles wrists hands everything cooled down.. Felt great. After 30 minutes in the chilly waters of kanva we came out of the water and had a good nap on the banks. After that we decided to head back to Bangalore.
TIME:15:30 hrs

RIDE IV: (Kanva-Bangalore)
Well the last 60kms were left and it was just formality completing this stretch. The lunch & the dip in Kanva was really refreshing and we did this stretch in about an hour to reach Bangalore and we headed home.
TIME:16:30 hrs

I would like to end this article by saying the following
this was one of my hardest treks till date, considering the season & the risks I took. I might have not taken the right route but defiantly took the tougher one and came out alive ,one slip would have finished it all & I wasn’t sure I would be returning back home that day but yeah \m/ here I am alive and kicking ha-ha!!
PS: And yeah don’t be scared to visit the place after reading this , the trek is pretty simple if u take the right route.
Until next time Ciao \m/ (Scroll up and see the snaps of this maddening route i took)

Previous Visit:
BR HILLS in <5minutes : BR hills <5mins.

This was one of our dream trips – So had to be completed. As it was sem end holidays few had left to their native and few were just about to leave. So we decided to give them the perfect gift. So BR hills trip was planned. It was one year since Mekedat trip.
After a lot of talks it was 8 of us on 4 bikes. 400 to 450 kms in day was no joke… and I was a little over excited about this trip so told others to meet up at 4 :30 am…. And they said they couldn’t make it that early as it would be difficult. So agreed at 6 am.

RIDE I: ( House – NICE ROAD exit)
Morning about 6:30 we left my house, Filled up petrol, Checked Air pressure, took NICE road which would lead to Kankpura. On the NICE Road there was fog and mist everywhere we went thinking that that it was only a few meters. But suddenly we stopped at a place…Thick dense fog right in front of us… So we had to continue at a slower pace.

After taking deviation to Kanakpura Road , heavy dense fog everywhere .Few meters away we could see a faint outline , next thing a BIG HUGE truck right in front of us. Finally we came out of the NICE road , shivering, hands were totally numb. It was as hard as a rock. Haha felt good though \m/
TIME: 06:51

RIDE II : (NICE Road To Kanakpura – Death RIDE)
Thought the fog and mist would die down but it actually got worse, I mean a hell lot worse. All we could see is a maximum of 5-7 feet in front of us. It made riding really difficult but tat much fun.
We stuck to a decent pace of 60’s and followed the hardly visible tail lamp in front of each other. Incoming vehicles became a nightmare to watch out for. Arun & Arvi led the way… as Mithul & me followed.

The curves of the Kanakpura road gave us the chills down the spines as we couldn’t see the road itself properly. At many places there are lakes on both sides… and fog was rushing onto the road… so were so helpless…. And lorries coming form the opposite side. It was scary. Please check out the excellent snaps caught by Manohar & Ashok during the fog ride… It really tells a lot more than I can ever express.

As I wasn’t wearing any gloves I lost sensation of my hand… hands were totally numb. (Bangalore recorded the lowest temperature in past 117 years 9 degree on Celsius scale). Stopped at a place ( actually to pick up Gundu’s cap ,which had fallen due to the windy conditions) , I rubbed my hand against the ground just to feel back my hand… well after doing so , got back little sensation… but got small bruises with it .
Next stop kanakpura.

We entered a new hotel in Kanakpura , the tap water felt so hot…. Whew, washed our faces and hands. Our hair was totally wet due to the fog condensing on our hair. Ordered Idli & Vada . Then had caape, felt real good.
Then we enquired about BR hills150kms to go… GULP all that struggle through that fog, had made us feel we had rode about 100-200 kms .. Haha! Anyway we had to get the job done so we left the hotel hoping there was no fog ahead.
TIME: 08:15

RIDE III: (Kanakpura – Kollegala)
The Foggy conditions continued , but we had got used to it by then. And to be frank it felt good negotiating the curves without actually seeing the road but following a small red light in front of us. Finally when the sun was up we could feel the warm sun rays hitting the road and on our faces. Lifted up our hands and took all the warmth form the sun as we could and zoomed off to Kollegala via Shivanasamudra.
TIME: 09:30

RIDE IV: (Kollegala – Br Hills)
We took the outskirts of Kollegala to avoid traffic. It was small but good road and there was no traffic at all, greenery on both sides. Then we finally got the first glimpse of the mighty BR hills. What can I say… it was beautiful as always!!!
We reached the foot of the hills paid Rs 10 to the forest guards and registered our entry into the forest and then we started the climb. Believe me I have no words to describe the ride to BR, rode at 40`s , negotiating the forest curves looking out for animals.

The forest curves were too good, stopped at a small beautiful pond and enjoyed the surroundings. AS we rode on we got a glimpse of some tribals but were aware we would have to pay them if we took snaps with them.
The ride got even better as we entered into thicker trees, only a bunch of sunrays could reach the road. We were speechless, enjoying every moment. Finally after sometime we reached the Top.

There is a temple at the top and the view all around the temple is breath taking. First things first visited the temple and I bought my lucky rings and added to the collection!! 😀
Then we hung around the temple exploring the place and enjoying the aerial view of the place. There was greenery everywhere, it was real treat for the eyes.

Arun’s Shivgange incident came up again… haha!!
Arun, Madu,KG & mithul wanted to visit Shivnasamudra as they had not been there before. But ending up on Kanakpura road after sunset is pretty dangerous as it would be difficult to ride. So we agreed to visit Gaganchukki as Barachukki would take a lot of time and yea it was not the right season to visit them too… as they were fading off.

Arvi & Ashok had spotted a hotel on our way up; it was not even a kilometer away from the temple, so we went there for lunch. We got REAL good food. Proper meals served on banana leaves. Price was reasonable too!! Please have a look at hotel too it’s the only one available on top, managed to get one snap of it.
After having a heavy lunch we left….
TIME: 13:30

RIDE V: (BR Hills – Shivanasamudra)
Ride back was pretty fast and we started feeling the curves and ghat when we rode back as we were at 70`s. Back to back 4 bikes, Arvi & Manu leading…. Ashok & me rode behind. Finally after a sometime with many stops in the forest again we were out of BR forests.
Said a final good bye to this wonderful place and rode towards Gaganchukki. I would like to recall another incident…. There was this really steep curve after getting down BR… Arvi went forward and stopped, I followed him and slowed down watching Ashok in the rear view mirror… Aashok and arun were speaking to each other and went off road 😀 , but he managed to pull back the bike onto the road… Manu and Mithul were behind them. We all had a good laugh and continued to reach Shivasamudra.
TIME: 14:30

We saw the falls, as we expected the water was fading off. Spent sometime… washed our faces hands and our heads. And here I got some proper sleep on the bench flat for 30 mins.
Waking up I saw a small bull coming towards me, guess it was the same bull I met on 14th March,2010 , so patted on its forehead :D.
RIDE BACK VI: (Shivnasamudra – Kanakpura- Bengaluru)
From Gaganchukki next 150kms was just formality .But had to be out of Kanakpura Road before sunset hopefully as planned. Reminds me Talkad trip where we ended up on Kanakpura road in the dark it was difficult to ride.

Arvi , Ashok , Mithul & KG were long asleep, we rode at a decent pace to reach Kanakpura hotel had very good Coffee & tea washed our faces and hit back the road.
Next 60 kms was too good… all throughout we remembering our morning ride through the same section we could see the lakes , trees.. and most importantly the ROAD it self haha !! 😀 , Rode at 70’s to reach NICE road entrance,
TIME: 17:30
We rode slowly on the NICE road, as the sun went down. The trip had worked to perfection and felt real good riding the last stretch.
At NICE road exit BAM!! We had a problem Arvi bike’s Clutch wire snapped, we got it to mechanic and got it fixed and returned to bakery for some tea and left home very satisfied with the trip.

KG – had been on my bike throughout the trip , excellent experience to take back to Shimoga 😀
MITHUL – any trip he`s been is turned out to be toughest and Epic ones Pearlvalley , Talkad , BR Hills.
MADHU – Remained silent through out the journey… rode a good 100kms on RTR.
ASHOK & ARUN – haha in the forest we could hear them laugh far away!!
ARVI & MANU – led the way through the most worst condition I might ever come across….
Until Next time \m/ Ciao \t/

with 12 comments

Place: TK Falls.

Distance: 30 x 2 = 60 kms (Total)
Spot : Falls , Trekk , mini-Forest.
Bikes : Avenger , Apache 150, FZ-16, GS 150, Discover,Unicorn(Black thunder), Pulsar 150 ( Black turtle).
Participants: Ashok > Arvi > Arun > Dany > Anoop > Abhishek > Endu > Anand > Chetan > Dherien > Manu > Shekar > Chinta > Sp
Directions: Kanakpura road> Kaaglipura(before APS college)> Left turn> 4kms Offroad> Tk falls.
Previous Visit : Talkad – The mega Trip.

Okie this was one of those kinda 1st planned … last minute cancelled… then finally we do it kinda trips. This was done 7 days after the Epic Talkad trip.
12pm everybody sitting in the class busy making plans … around 14 people confirmed their spots… 12:45pm everybody assembled bakery…everybody were told to finish off their lunch near college as there was no good food available on kankpura road.

At about 2pm we left to fill petrol…some went to SHELL …ashok & myself went to a petrol bunk nearby… and filled it up.. and while coming back towards NICE road entrance… we were on the wrong side of the road… Suddenly a traffic police jeep comes( on the right side of the road :P)… ayyio I didn’t wanna get caught before the start of this trip only… I had to put my bike on the side pretended as though i was entering some building… and kept staring at the policemen :D….after they left Dany & me were the first to reach the NICE road entrance… within 10 mins everybody joined us.

Well the ride was a short one… on the NICE road it was smooth 70`s …10 minutes we were on Kanakpura road… from there the search for the falls began. We asked a few Locals … and took a left turn at Kaaglipura .. from there it was completely Offroad biking…
Muddy, Rocky. Slippery Road conditions made the controlling of bike difficult but Fun …Finally Dany & myself reached the place 1st… behind us everybody followed …dJ ,Manu, Anand, Arun, Endu…Time : 2:30pm

Ok as soon as we entered some Old lady came & told to leave with our bikes as police had come in the morning.. theft of a car …bla bla….We spoke to her properly realized tat she wanted parking money… and she wanted the payment then only… we told we would pay her latter… but she refused… finally spoke her and convinced her .

Ok back to the falls,… we had to walk 10-15mins from the entrance… we saw a huge rock far away with dried up water marks on it :(… it totally disappointing… but we could hear water flowing … so went further… well wat do u know..there was a waterfall and it was packing some force too ….Aaah worth it totally..washed our faces & freshened up.

“Ok we saw the waterfalls but what’s above the Falls???” Haha That was the question on everybody’s mind…
It was a crazy plan, climbing up the rocks alongside the falls …so the trek started….. Arvi, Ashok, Endu, were all long gone… next batch was Chinta , Anand , Shekar… were right below then.. i.e the last group .. Po, me ( by default theslowpoke- Arun :P)… Chinta tried to cross the falls… slipped… but hung onto a branch and pulled himself up…Whew!!! Scared the hell out of everybody below…by the time we reached the Top…everybody were sitting and washing their feet in the Cool flowing water. Time : 3:15pm.

The view from the top was brilliant…could see Greenery for miles …a small muddy road which bought us to the place… and a small lake far far away… we sat there for 20 mins… on the other side was Bannergahta Forest.. .. there was electric fence ( and we`r all still alive so it means we didn’t climb over it :P) in beween…. The trek up was a tricky but a nice one… finally ended up on a huge rock… below that rock was one fall u would avoid… death fall for sure… but standing on that rock …the view was aamazing \m/

Everbody rested on the rock… Anoop, Ashok & myself continued further… the terrain got rough …steep rocks.. thorny shrubs made it more difficult… but at the end what do we get… 3 abandoned houses..
We explored the place… but left us wondering how the workers got all the materials tat hish and constructed the houses… then we headed back to join back the others.

Then the trek down began, we kinda forgot the route we came… so “Where there is a path , there is a way” became the motto…so followed path filled with thick trees and shrubs… was totally like a forest… but at the end.. we were at the bottom of the falls without even taking the risk of climbing down alongside the falls 😀

Went back to our bike to find the poor ajji still waiting for us…. Hmm felt bad… payed her well for looking after our bikes ( but still checked our bikes :P) …. “Ajji ki Jai \m/” She felt very happy and headed back … & so did we… another 4kms of bumpy ride… and smooth steady ride … took us back to the entrance of the NICE road… the ride on the NICE road felt real good… the sun was going down…we made back to the bakery at about 5: 15 pm…
Had tea , juice etc etc… and finally left back to our respective houses.. filled with content…An afternoon very well spent….

Bangloreans who’r still wondering about whether this place exists… YEAH IT DOES… all snaps are 100% pakka… no illusions 😛 😛
Until next time… Ciao \m/

21st night Oct`10… my mobile was on fire , confirming each person their spots for the trip next day.The next day…6am , go to college… and yea couldn’t find anybody…. After 15 mins , S , Dany ,And Gau showed up…by 7am almost everybody were there..except… yeah!! Our Slowpoke Arun 😛 😛 Ok let me introduce the 21 people ( i.e 1/3rd of our class Hehe)

7 30 am we left bengaluru , the plan was to go on Mysore road…have breakfast at Maddur tiffany`s and while returning take Kanakpura road. The one word that best describes the ride onMysore road is Royal Bad bikers 😛 . Vineet`s and Daasa`s bikes with Custom made silencer ( Loud noise… I mean like REAL loud noise) lead the way… other bikers and cars just left way watching us come at them in their rear mirror ..( Aaahh felt like a real king :P)

Not long before Arvi ,Endu raced away to maddur… Daasa & Vinnet With their BOOM exhaust in front Dany and Me behind cruising along at a constant pace of 60-70`s going as one unit… now tat was THE sight!!! \m/ ( Not to forget Spiderman Buzzing forward and back now and then on his Discover ). Mithul , Arun , Hanuman … stayed back …they were the silent riders.

Maddur Tiffany`s :

Entering Maddur tiffany`s the expressions on the people`s faces I something il remember for a long time :D. We ordered 21 masala dosa`s and 21 maddur vada`s to start off 😛 then ordered onion dosa (Kikass \m/) etc etc…
After 1.5 hrs we left tiffanys and took a left after in the town which would take us to talkad.

The road is pretty bad …had ride at a slow pace Endu was long gone :P… now comes my favorite part…. Entering the town of mallavalli 1st were Vinnet and me… Hearing Vineets bike sound people were a lil terrified… but tat was just the starting… we started increasing speed… 70-80-90 km/hr 😀 😀 … and 8-9 bikes following us …we beeped our horns like there was no tomorrow 😀 😀 people who had crossed the road half ran back to the divider/ footpath …Another BoOM exhaust( Daasa) ripped through the town… in a matter of few mins we were long gone… people of tat town were wondering wat hit them 😛

We reached the Talkad deviation junctionin a short time…but Arvi , Endu ,Hanuman & Anand had taken another deviation which would also lead to the same place… Told them to come further so tat we could all go together!!
After this deviation from the main road it`s a 26km drive to talked, we drove at a pretty good pace, Chetu`s and my drag kept our adrenaline rushing till talked. After sometime Arvi Arun, Mithul And me decided to stop as we were way ahead of others…. We saw an old Banyan tree… Ashok told Arvi .. “ oye 20 rs if u climb tat “…In seconds Arvi was on on it… hehe!! Then we stopped shouting “ Please Stop and give a Glimpse at the African monkey :P, its very rare… bla bla”.. people actually believed us stopped and were searching for it…haha!!!

After tat we rode on… a new road was being laid… so they had put tat Jelly , sand etc…The next 2-3 kms was like a Hell ride… bikes were slipping the instant we applied brakes… finally after 3kms…there was more of mud road…after 20 mins or so…we reached the main temple directly.

7 of us said they wanted to go the Cauvery river directly… I had 2nd thoughts on my mind… but after coming so far.. didn’t wanna miss the pre historic buildings…so told them we would join them after 1,5-2 hrs .
Then the tiring walk on the sands began, the temple carvings are simply amazing!!! Had to salute the sculptures who had done a marvelous job. The “RINGS” and the Ganesha on a horse are a must see at this place.

After about an hour , we took our bikes to join others at the river!! Vineet. Daasa. Gagan . Chetu. Chinta & Sutta … stayed back…. Then The GAMES began…. We bought a ball
Yo BIG ones on one side , and SMALL ones on the other.. its Rugby time :P…. Believe me the small ones were total control for the 1`st half as we had Wind in our favour!! But his dint go for long … haha… but yea it was fun 🙂

After about 1.5-2 hrs in water we came out….with small bruises here and there… then decided to have lunch…. Mithul , Chinta & myself decided to skip it as we weren’t hungry… Manu and Arun joined us in a short while…we had juice…( Tats like 20 hrs of energy for me :P)…. After everbody had finished we left Talkad at about 4:30pm…told everybody tat we would be taking Kanakpura road this time.

Going back there it was again….That skiddy , jelly, sandy . dabba , Loapree road..Gulp!! Went at a constant pace.. “S” was sittin behind me… he kept telling me to look at the sun , The greenry..the housse far away etc they were beautiful…and he kept giving me scores until I completed the 3 km stretch…After tat all 11 bikes were Cruising at 50`s as a single unit…tat too on a small road… ( Loved the expressions on the faces of people coming in the opposite direction )

Then I zoomed ahead …and waited for others at the Kankpura deviation…. After everybody reached…ES said he had to refuel so he would go to Mallavali and join us back after a few mins…So we left …Arvi leading in front went at good pace….manu , Dany and me stuck together cruising at 60`s…it was ok kinda bright when we reached Kankpura…but once we left the town… it became dark in a matter of minutes…
A 2-lane road . no divider, no street lights, mostly busses and lorries , GULP!!! Tats one road u wouldn’t want to drive at night!!!

Everybody were long gone…. “S” and me were left behind…. One bus comes in front of us … we couldn’t see a thing due to its headlights.. over tat another Lorry over-taking it…Oh mother!!! Had to go to the extreme left …. Then from nowhere Ashok comes with Arun…Aaah finally some company…Vroom… they Go…:( again we both left behind… Then gau comes “ Had gone to fill petrol…” ZOOM they too go… :D… Everytime we saw a bus S was like “Left left left left” ..after traveling for a long time at 40`s …finally made it to the NICE road entrance to find the rest 10 bikes waiting for us.

We asked them how long it had been since they arrived … they said 5-10 mins…I looked at S..”Oye we weren’t tat bad Seeeeeee … \m/”

Took the NICE road and went at Full speed… cause we had ridden slow… tat means extra hours of riding extra butt pain … Felt real good doing the last stretch…watching the Full moon in the dark star filled Sky 🙂
Ok here comes the BIG finish to the wonderful trip…. Everybody took the right deviation on NICE road… but Endu & Chinta missed the Board and went off straight… they ended up in some other Toll booth… when enquired they came to know tat they had to take a left, way behind… so they started coming back… unfortunately they took a U-turn before tat deviation :P… this took them back to the same toll booth again… after the 3 times like this… 4th time they realized tat they were going to the same toll booth Rofl!!! 😛 😛
Dany who kept speeds at 60`s constant …reached back 1st!!! Next was Arvi…then me …In the next 10-15mins ….Everybody made it back… after 30 mins Endu & Chinta joined us….we all gave them a Hero`s welcome..

We had something to eat and drank tea…it was about 20:30.. had one Final group snap at the bakery…to mark the end of a wonderful trip :)…It was one of those trips tat will remain buried deep inside our heads For a long long time… 😀
21 mechie`s , 11 bikes , 1/3rd of class… 300 kms \m/
And well the next day all of us were back in action…Nop… not on the road…but in exam hall….Had not one …but TWO quizzes the next day…. 😛 😛

Participants : DiLLi > Abhilash > Dhanush > “S” > Manu > Gauressh > Arvi >Sp .
Bikes : Gs150 >Royal Enfield Thunderbird > Apache150 >Pulsar .

Previous Visit: Kanva Mechanix Tour.

It was 7 days since the Kanva trip….. we wanted to hit the road. & hit big this time!! Last time it was 120kms…this time 300 kms :D…..YUP – Shivnasamudra and not to forget THE ISRO lake too 😛 .
Alrit on 27th due to a lot of confusion and loads of texts …. The trip was cancelled… then we all started working out a plan at about 11pm… Dillip , Abhishek S (“s”) , Abhilash, ,Manu , and Gaureesh confirmed their spots !!! Arvi , Dany & myself stayed up late night till about 2 am …confirming the people and bikes and the place decided was Muthyala maduvu – pearlvalley !!!
Next day morning 6:30am…. Dany was the 1st to arrive at my house!! Then Dillip , latter Gaureesh , “s” , abhilash…Manu turned up….after about 20 mins more arvi also joined us!!! Now the place was not yet decided….”s” was for pearl valley… Dany , Gau was for Shivna!! ARvi , manu , Abhilash, DilLi & me were ok with anything…. So fianlly Shivnasamudra was decided as it was at its best , i had visited it about 7 days prior to this trip.

So we went to the petrol bunk 1st… then after a long discussion it was Shivna 🙂 … then arvi & me said NICE road was the best route to get to kanakpura road…. It would save us a lot of time … ( we had been to shivna on 14/3/10) But Dillli told he knew a shorter route to Kanakpura so we followed him & headed on mysore road we reached kengeri, from then it was only traffic filled, but after a lot of riding in the small roads with lots of pot holes we ended up in a water body called the ISRO lake. We were all furious , but yeah it was not a bad place at all, we had the privilege to see one of the best bird races ever witnessed . After spending some quality time there we left to the pre planned destination Shivanasamudra.
Finally we reached kanakpura road… and we were way behind the NICE road entry…so we hit it… and hit it hard….We reached a small dhaba …finished our breakfast ..and headed towards shivnasamudra… There was this incident.,, I was going at 85-90’s…. overtaking a bus…opposite side pulsar rushes in…squeezed between the two :O … the part of my jacket on left arm touchin the bus…and the one on right touchin that guys shirt at 80+km/hr… It was scary , but yeah dangerous at the same time !!

Finally we headed in full flow…the road to shivnasamudra is pure heaven!!! 🙂 …reached kanakpura and headed further towards shivnasamudram… on the way the the place we saw many cyclists traveling after kankpura…. Then in a after a steady ride… we were at the 1st part of shivna …Gaganchukki…. Here at this place we cant get down in water…we saw the waterfalls from a viewpoint. It was pretty full and one can never get tired of looking at it… it is the 2nd hydro-electric power station in Asia after shimshapura … and Gaganchukki belongs to Mandya district..whereas the 2nd part barachukki belongs to chamrajnagar district…
Then we headed towards barachukki…. . its about a 10 km ride from gaganchukki…. With a 2km bumpy ride.!!! We reached barachukki ..parked our bikes … we climbed down a long way to reach a small stream which packed super power…. As we were crossing it , Dilli slipped and the currents started dragging him away, but he was ale to pull himself back. After crossing the stream, we were right in front of the falls and this really tempted us to go one step further and sit below the power packed falls.

There was no stopping us… everybody got down into water …the water was pretty dangerous as the falls packed in a lot of power… I decided to stay back and take care of the bags… after sometime… I tried getting down in water… the power … It was intense.. then we stood right below the falls!!! Everybody else climbed on the rocks and started jumping from it 😀 …. The water falling on the rocks… man it was an amazing sight!!! 🙂
Then after about 2hrs … decided to head back… just then I turn back & see a monkey … it had opened my bag’s zip..kept my shirt , my documents, my towel all the things aside…and taken only 4 biscuits!!! Ha-ha
Then we decided to have something and head back to Bangalore…..again we had to cross the stream !!! Damn…. This time diLLi threw his shoes to the other side.. people arnd took shelter from the incoming shoe attack :P… evrbody crossed safely …. While crossing back Dany slipped and fell into the water…. I got down and caught his leg… and managed to pull him back… finally we crossed the stream.
Then we had to climb back all the way we came… believe me it was the hardest part!!! We took 2 pit stops… and finally made it back… had juice, churmuri, DilLi , arvi dany had fish.. etc etc… finally we headed back to Bangalore!!
It started raining and it was pretty heavy… we stopped at a small shop had tea ..and waited for the rain to slow down… once it reduced we continued….We stopped at a petrol bunk as manu wanted to refuel!! Well after tat…there was no stopping Dany…diLLi , manu & me stuck together..The drive back was kikass!!! Open shirts… Cool weather… and we looked up the sky to witeness a wonderful sight, there were 2 rainbows at the same time…it was my 1st time seeing it :D… finally when we were a few kms from kankpura… Dany and abhilash were waiting for us since 15mins :D!!! Then arvi took over my bike and we headed further… we drove at a decent pace…and reached my place at 6:30 pm… and after that, It started pouring cats!!!…we had caape, tea , puff, etc etc… and watched the rain… 🙂 🙂
Finally we all headed back home!!!

WHEW!!! 300kms in day again was super awesome… the falls was at its best!! And we were right below it \m/

2) Bengaluroo > Maddur > Mallavali > Shivnasamudra.

Previous Trip: Savandurga noon trek.

We wanted to do this trip since about 4 months, 300kms one day was never easy, 14th of march ’10 was the day we finally made it!! . It was of course one of our memorable trips till date.

7am in the morning, Ashok, arvi and myself assembled in front of my house. Arun coudnt make it this time :(.. but he did come to my house and spoke to us for sometime!!!

We headed of on NICE road to join kankpura road, from then on it was smooth sailing from there.. ok this next incident is almost got me killed… there was this mad woman (u all know the alternate word) shouting in the middle of the road at vehicles , Arvi and ashok passed her, then I was like “ screw u ” she got really angry and tried chasing me, I went off road, but managed to pull my bike and regain control 😀 !!!

Then we had to take a break since nobody had breakfast, we had completed about 100kms…The road to shivnasamudra is simply amazing!!!! Arvi had brought some apples ..we sat on the roadside and gulped them down 🙂 Then we covered the next 50kms at a pretty good pace, to reach our 1st destination Gaganchuki 🙂 🙂

We were a little disappointed that there was less water, stayed there for a while enjoying the scenery. It`s a very civilized area ( not like mekedat). We had breakfast at a decent hotel at gaganchuki , fooled around with chickens and geese in the hotel!!

When we were about to the place , AH Alexiii (my pet rabbit) or what I thought was Alexi had followed me 😀 I lost my mind.. went sat next to it rubbing its back!!! Arvi and ashok kept their distance. Then I realised it was a bull 😀 😀

Then we left for barachukki , gaganchukki and barachuki are about 10kms apart. We reached barachuki in another 10-15 mins… we parked our bikes…and found there was less water here too 😦 . It was tiring long climb down… but it was the ideal time to explore the place.

We crossed a small stream which packed a lot of force… then we reached a very beautiful falls, sat there for sometime and went further deeper … it was an amazing spot!!! Spent a good hour or so there right below the falls :). Then finally decided to head back to Namma bengalooroo, it was about 1pm.

The drive back was again pretty good… thanks to the smooth new road we drove at steady pace and reached home at abt 3 :30 pm….YUP, 300kms one day , we were proud Hehe.. for a guy who never thought could ride a bike… it was an achievement for me I guess haha!!! ( wher`s my collar when I need one)

Kushal , Arvi , Ashok , Arun – I truely thank u guys for teaching me to ride a Bike 🙂 \m/

And yeah…. Next day we had college …half the day we were asleep 😀 :D…. YAWWWNNNNN 😛

It was a week since we visited TG reservoir , plus we had a holiday on 26th of Jan..God knows why :d… So we decided to go outta town on tat day..Manu, Arv, Ashok agreed..but unfortunately Arun couldn’t as he was busy..
We thought of leaving at 6am (our usual time) Ashok made it by 7.., due to some work Arvi was in Hossur the exact opposite part of the city 😦 ..ANOTHER FLOP?? 😥

I badly wanted to this trip, we hadn’t come to this place when we came to Mekedat ..Arvi said he would make to my place no matter wat happens.. Whew that was G00D NEWS 🙂
As Ashok had come early. We played cricket in our garage ( Galli ^ 2 Cricket :D) then watched a movie… Manu joined us for lunch..Mom had cooked nice nice Food 🙂 Arvi made it our place at about 1:30 pm… We packed some biscuits & finally left at 2 pm ( Ps : 2pm is the latest time we`v Left till date)
TIME: 14:00 hrs

It was about 100 km from Namma Bengalur00..So we had to Rip big time tat clearly meant I shouldn’t drive Hehe 😀 Manu & Arvi hit the road at 90’s- 100’s constantly… As I was sitting back..had nothing to Put some Bodom’s playist ..Yeah \m/ \m/
We stopped at a small town on the way to Kankapura & picked up 2-3 bottles of juice. Then there was no stopping , headed in flow to reach Kankpura in no time. After Kankapura, a s00per d00per road leads us to Chunchi & Mekedat.
AShok rode from there & we reached Chunchi in flat 1.5hrs…parked our bikes & headed down… The terrain was very rocky and pretty dangerous too… we saw a small stream and OFFICAILLY named it as mini Chunchi Haha!! Washed our faces and continued…
TIME: 15:30 hrs

Far away we could see an eagles nest or something like tat pretty far away ,,, Yup tat was our target… We were very careful about the rocks as it was slippery and we weren’t wearing shoes 😦 😦 the place was very beautiful it was like some lost lake … very nice place….
There was this rock …pretty high from water was a fall into water if one would overstep that rock… We could see only ashok`s head at the tip of the rock…calling out for help. For a moment our heart stopped!! Holy shit… next moment we could see him laughing …there was a rock underwater…it was as though he was standing on water. 😀

Then after climbin up high rocks…jumpin across a few..we finally made it to the nest kindaa thing… Sat down….opened the juice bottles and biscuits…and had it peacefully…We could see other people looking at Chunchi from where we were..It was about 5…we knew we had to leav…
TIME: 17:00 hrs

We left at about 5 pm, we had spend about 1.5 hrs at Chunchi … there was no turning back …. And we hit the road back at above 100 km/hr …Haha there was another funny incident… Ashok and arvi were ahead of us…a uncle in some bike came in front of them…they slowed down & had to stop ….Manu & myself zoomed past them I shouted “ OOOyeee , Nodkondu ODSo LOAfer “ ( Open your eyes when u drive in polite terms :P)

Both ashok and arvi were shocked Hehe :)..that uncle gave us a dangerous stare…
AS we headed back there was this crazy bunch of kids on 2 dio`s and an activa… they ripped past us at 90`s… I didn’t speak anything… Ashok didn’t speak anything..Avi & Manu Stepped on it…Vroom they went past them…all me and Ashok did was look at them and gave them a BIG SMILE 😀 .
The sunset on the way back was very beautiful.. Arvi touched 123 km/hr on NICE ROAD while comin back..We reached Bangalore at about 6pm…It was a very fast trips…and one of those trips where u have your heart in your mouth every minute… 😀
We had kickass fun tat is the most important part of going so far…. We were disappointed tat Arun couldn’t join us…but Hey we can always Go back… Can finish Mekedat and Chunchi in a day easily.. they are only about 10km apart..
Thank YOU 🙂

Previous trip : Maddur ( actually manchinbele ).

It was the eve of 23rd of December ’09, we all decided to go out of town for a small ride.. but due to some confusion everything got cancelled :(.Next day morning about 6am I get a text, I snoozed off..10 min latter another text.. I thought it was something of importance & read it.. Oh yes it was important:) It was from Arv & it said “Bro im Comin to your place in 15min be ready!!” . Without second thoughts I got ready, sent a text to Arun.. Arv made it to my place at about 6:30.. then we waited for Arun ,believe me it`s no easy task doing it :D. Finally he turned up at 7 & we left, destination unknown!!!!

We had no idea where we were heading to, we took the nice road and headed towards Kankapura main road.As we were heading towards Kankapura we saw a board which said MEKEDATU 80km…We stopped in front of it looked at each other and our fuel. It was a crazy plan because I had heard the mishaps which had taken place in mekedat from years, but wanted to see the place myself. We headed off to mekedat.

As we had not eaten our breakfast we wanted to stop in a decent hotel after kanakpura. To our amazement we didn’t find a single hotel 😦 .But the road from kankapura to mekedat was like heaven, a newly laid road. , all we saw on that road were a flock of sheep & a herd of Goats. After that we headed off at full flow & reached Sangam in no time.

We had to cross the Arkavati river which was in GOD mode, while crossing the river I slipped on a boulder & hurt my leg .Somehow we crossed it,my leg was in terrible pain.. then it was a bumpy 3km ride in bus to reach the actual place MEKEDATU. As we reached the place we could hear the rushing sound of water at some distance. We got down from the bus and went down the steps to find a rocky terrain, As we climbed up the rocks we could hear the water Roar!! Once we were up it was a totally different world!!!

Below us we could hear the thunderous sound of water striking the rocks. I was extremely scared as I don’t know swimming. It was simply amazing to watch the water flow in it’s full glory!!Arv & arun took one step ahead and went further in a tricky terrain I couldn’t go as my leg as I real pain by now.Though I couldn’t go there they took some of the best snaps ever taken at that place. I felt as though i had been there myself( I still shamelessly tell some of friends that I took those snaps Hehe)

Finally we returned back to sangama & we crossed the river with no damage. Then we had to eat something ..we a bottle juice each..there were no shops too..After having the juice I said I was full !! the look on their faces after I said is something il never forget…Finally we left towards Bangalore!!

The ride back was smooth..we had each other in site.We reached Bangalore at about 2pm.A day very well spent, we had visited a place where many people only Go..24.12.09 is a date il never forget in my life.

Ps: This all happened the day before our last theory final exam..
